Dr. Gideon Mamou

Principle investigator

gideon.mamou@mail.huji.ac.il                   CV

Gideon is a native Jerusalemite. He received his BSc in life sciences from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and completed his MSc work at Prof. Sigal Ben-Yehuda’s lab (HUJI) where he explored the rate of errors during transcription and translation in bacteria. He continued to work at the Ben-Yehuda lab during his PhD and studied the development of multicellular communities and how bacteria communicate to coordinate their own construction. For his post-doctoral work, Gideon joined the lab of Prof. Colin Kleanthous at the University of Oxford where he spent 5 years exploring the mechanisms of outer-membrane and envelope biogenesis in Gram-negative bacteria. Gideon is enthusiastic about anything related to bacterial cell biology and advanced microscopy which form the core of his scientific work.

When he is not in the lab, Gideon likes to spend time with his family. He enjoys sports, especially cycling, football, and tennis.

Dr. Moriah Koler

Lab manager

moriahk@mail.huji.ac.il

Moriah holds a PhD degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and has two decades of experience in laboratory work, including managing the lab of Prof. Ady Vaknin. She specializes in bacterial genetic engineering and microscopy.

Dr. Naama Katsowitch Nagar

Research associate

nagar.naama@gmail.com

Naama is a Research Associate in the lab with a deep passion for microbiology. She earned her PhD and conducted her postdoctoral studies in Prof. Ilan Rosenshine's lab (HUJI), where she investigated the interactions between pathogenic bacteria and the host cells. Currently, her research focuses on exploring the complexities of the bacterial envelope in order to develop innovative strategies for combating antibiotic resistance.

Jana Badran Horani

Msc student

jjansvuv@icloud.com

Jana comes from the village of Majd al Kurum. She completed her bachelor's degree in Medical Science and Biology at the University of Haifa. Her BSc project focused on investigating the role of the SRF pathway in sea urchin skeletogenesis. She joined  the Hebrew University to continue her academic journey.

Undergraduate student

sapir.nachman@mail.huji.ac.il

Sapir is from Jerusalem. she is studying biomedical sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She looks forward to being a sponge for knowledge of the microcosmos, her dream job title would be “chief of curiosity” but in this life she believes the title “Scientist” will be more than satisfactory.

Gilad Ish Shalom

Undergraduate student

gilad.ishshalom@mail.huji.ac.il

Gilad is from Mevasseret Zion and is studying Life Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has a strong passion for microbiology and for exploring how the microscopic world shapes life. Outside of academics, Gilad enjoys traveling, cooking, gardening, good coffee, and spending time with his dog.

Anashwara

Anashwara Baiju Tharakan

PHD student

Anashwarabaiju.Tharakan@mail.huji.ac.il

Anashwara is from India. she completed her Masters in Chemical and Molecular Biology from IIT Kharagpur and IACS Kolkata. During her master’s project, she worked on "Non-Genetic Molecular Exchange in Vibrio cholerae" under the guidance of Dr. Ritesh Ranjan Pal, where she developed a strong foundation in bacterial molecular biology and intercellular communication. Her research interests lie in understanding how antimicrobial resistance works and exploring the mechanisms we can use to combat it. Anashwara is passionate about applying advanced imaging and molecular techniques to study bacterial cell architecture and to design innovative strategies to overcome resistant pathogens. Outside the lab, Anashwara enjoys watching web series and documentaries, and has a keen interest in learning about different cultures.
